Fairsky Privacy Policy
Last updated October 9, 2026
Fairsky is made by Elco Dev, LLC ("we"). It has no account, and your saved places and settings stay on your phone. To show the weather it has to ask weather services about a place, and this policy says exactly what each request sends and to whom.
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no ads, no tracking and no selling of data.
- Your saved places and settings are stored on your device. Weather requests send a place's coordinates to the weather service that answers them (details below).
- Anonymous usage counts (never names or anything you type) help us improve Fairsky. You can turn them off in Settings › Privacy.
- Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and RevenueCat confirms them.
What stays on your device
Your saved places (the name you give each one and its coordinates), your projects, any product-label numbers you enter and your settings are stored on your device. There is no Fairsky account, and we don't keep a copy.
Weather requests
- United States: the app asks the U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) directly from your phone, sending a saved place's coordinates rounded to about 2 km (0.02°) to look up its forecast area. Alerts are requested by NWS zone and county code, with no coordinates; storm-based warning outlines are then matched against your exact place on the phone. Fairsky's server isn't involved.
- Canada: the app asks Fairsky's own server (hosted on Vercel) for a MET Norway forecast, with the coordinates rounded to about 2 km (0.02°).
- Next-hour rain (Plus): the app sends Fairsky's server coordinates rounded the same way plus its anonymous RevenueCat ID, which confirms you have Plus, and the server asks Apple WeatherKit for the next-hour forecast.
- Fairsky's server keeps no record of these requests beyond short-lived caches and the standard request logs of its hosting provider.
Radar and maps
Radar, lightning and map tiles load directly from Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University), NOAA nowCOAST, Environment and Climate Change Canada and OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data). Like any online map, those requests reveal which map area you're looking at, along with your IP address, under those services' own policies.
Location (optional)
Location permission is only used when you tap "Use my location" to add a place, and only while the app is open. Fairsky never uses background location. You can always add places by searching instead.
Severe-weather notifications (optional)
If you turn alerts on, the app registers with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and subscribes to topics named after the NWS forecast zone and county codes of your saved places (for example OHC049, a county), which describe areas, not precise locations. Fairsky's server checks NWS alerts every couple of minutes and sends a notification to the matching topics. Turning alerts off unsubscribes the app from those topics.
Widgets and the project timer
Home-screen widgets and the project timer notification show forecast information for your places on your home or lock screen, where anyone holding your phone can see it.
Anonymous usage statistics
Fairsky sends small anonymous usage events, such as "opened radar" or "added a project", with the app version, platform and a random install ID created on your phone. They never include coordinates, place names or anything you type, and they aren't linked to you, used for ads or shared. They go to our own Google Cloud Firestore database. Turn them off any time in Settings › Privacy. Google's automated test devices (Play pre-launch reports) send nothing.
What the app doesn't do
- No accounts, sign-in or contact details.
- No advertising, ad identifiers or third-party analytics.
- No background location, camera, microphone, contacts or photo-library access.
Data sources and attribution
- Forecasts, observations and alerts (US): National Weather Service / NOAA (public domain).
- Radar: Iowa Environmental Mesonet, Iowa State University; lightning and radar fallback: NOAA nowCOAST.
- Canadian radar: Environment and Climate Change Canada (Open Government Licence – Canada).
- Canadian forecasts: MET Norway (CC BY 4.0).
- Next-hour rain: Apple Weather. Legal attribution: weatherkit.apple.com/legal-attribution.html.
- Maps: OpenFreeMap © OpenMapTiles, data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Weather safety
Fairsky is not a substitute for official warnings. For warnings, go to weather.gov. Project verdicts are guidance based on forecasts, which can be wrong; when your product's label says something different, the label wins.
Purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple or Google; we never see your payment details. The app uses RevenueCat, Inc. to confirm purchases and unlock paid features. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase history for this app and basic device information (such as app version, OS version and storefront country), not your name, email or content. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Children
Fairsky is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Deleting your data
Your places and settings live on your device; deleting the app deletes them and ends any alert subscriptions. Fairsky's server keeps no per-user records. To ask RevenueCat to delete your purchase record, email us.
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update this page and the date above.
