App maintenance and support

Apps don't stay finished. Apple and Google raise their requirements every year, dependencies age, and a missed deadline can pull an app from the stores. We keep apps current on a monthly plan, and we take over apps that another developer built and left.

What's included

  • Yearly Android target-API and iOS SDK updates, with store resubmission
  • Security patches and dependency updates, tested before release
  • Bug fixes, crash monitoring and uptime alerts
  • App Store Connect and Google Play Console upkeep: policies, data-safety forms, developer-account notices
  • A set number of hours each month for small improvements
  • Code takeovers: a review of what you have, then a plan to stabilize it

How it works

  1. 01Free consultation. A 30-minute call about what you want to build, who it's for and what matters most.
  2. 02Scope and quote. A clear plan with the features, timeline and price, so you know what you're getting before we start.
  3. 03Design and build. Short cycles with working builds you can try and regular progress updates along the way.
  4. 04Launch and grow. Store submission or go-live, then analytics, subscriptions and improvements, the same way we run our own apps.

Common questions

Why does an app need ongoing maintenance?

Google Play requires apps to target a recent Android version every year, and Apple requires builds with a recent SDK. Apps that fall behind can't ship updates and can disappear from search in the store. Dependencies and backend services also need security updates.

Can you take over an app another developer built?

Yes. We took over BookReverb's existing codebase and now lead all of its development, and we've maintained apps built in React Native, Flutter, Ionic and native code. We start with a short review of the code, accounts and hosting, then tell you what we found.

How is support priced?

Monthly, with a set number of hours included and no long contract. The right plan depends on the app and how often it changes, so we quote after a short review.

Do you maintain your own apps the same way?

Yes. We run our own apps in the App Store and Google Play, including Crohn's Food Tracker, which has been in the stores since 2017. The yearly updates we do for clients are the ones we do for ourselves.
