How to record your Android screen on a Mac

For a quick clip, use the phone's own screen recorder and copy the video over. To save straight to your Mac, mirror with scrcpy and add --record=phone.mp4. To record a Samsung DeX or phone desktop in a Mac window, use scrcpy's --record or Deskbridge Pro.

1. The phone's own screen recorder

Most Android phones have Screen recorder in Quick Settings (swipe down twice). It records the phone's screen and saves the video on the phone; copy it to your Mac with a cable, Quick Share or your cloud photos. It's made for the phone's own screen, not a desktop running in a Mac window.

2. scrcpy: record straight to the Mac

scrcpy is free and open source. With USB debugging on and the phone plugged in:

scrcpy --record=phone.mp4

It mirrors the phone and writes the video on your Mac at the same time. Stop with Ctrl+C or by closing the window so the MP4 is finished properly. Add --no-playback to record without showing a window.

3. A DeX or phone desktop: Deskbridge Pro

If you use Deskbridge to run Samsung DeX (or Pixel desktop mode) in a Mac window, Deskbridge Pro adds Record Desktop to Movies: each session is saved to Movies › Deskbridge when you close it. $5 a year on top of a Deskbridge license; recording is in beta. More on recording DeX.

Your phone's desktop, in a Mac window

Deskbridge opens Samsung DeX on your Mac when you plug in. Free for 7 days, then $12 once.
