Which phones support DeX on a Mac?

You need a Samsung Galaxy with One UI 8 or later — that's the version where DeX starts on the virtual display a Mac can show in a window. Check Settings › About phone › Software information › One UI version. We've verified it on the Galaxy Z Fold 7; other Android phones can still mirror their screen to your Mac, but without DeX.

The one requirement: One UI 8 or later

It isn't about the model so much as the software. Starting with One UI 8, Samsung launches the full DeX desktop on any new virtual display, and that's what makes DeX-in-a-Mac-window possible (here's how it works). If your Galaxy has received One UI 8 or a later version, it qualifies — whether it's a phone, a foldable or a tablet.

Typically that means recent Galaxy S, Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models, plus recent Galaxy tablets — but update schedules vary by model, region and carrier, so check your One UI version rather than going by the model name.

How to check your One UI version

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap About phone (or About tablet), then Software information.
  3. Look at One UI version. You need 8.0 or later. If you're on 7, check Settings › Software update — One UI 8 may be waiting.

FAQ

Which phones can run DeX on a Mac?

Samsung Galaxy phones, foldables and tablets that have One UI 8 or later. On those, DeX starts on a virtual display that a Mac can show in a window. Deskbridge is verified on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

How do I check my One UI version?

Open Settings › About phone › Software information and look at One UI version. You need 8.0 or later.

Does it work on One UI 7 or older?

Not for DeX in a window. On One UI 7 and earlier, DeX doesn't start on virtual displays. You can still mirror the phone's screen to your Mac.

What about Pixel or other Android phones?

Non-Samsung Android phones (Android 5 or later) work for screen mirroring with your Mac's keyboard and trackpad, but they don't have Samsung DeX.
