How to record Samsung DeX on a Mac
When DeX runs in a Mac window through scrcpy, add --record=dex.mp4 and the whole session is saved as a video. Stop with Ctrl+C so the file is finished properly. Deskbridge Pro does the same with one menu toggle.
Free: scrcpy in Terminal
If you already run DeX with scrcpy (setup guide), add one option:
scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080/240 --record=dex.mp4
- The file appears in the folder you ran the command from. Use a
.mkvname instead if you'd rather have a format that survives a crash (QuickTime can't open MKV; VLC and IINA can). - Stop with Ctrl+C in Terminal or by closing the window. scrcpy writes the MP4's index when it exits normally; if the process is killed, the MP4 can be left unplayable.
- On some phones the default H.265 encoder fails; add
--video-codec=h264.
One click: Deskbridge Pro
With Deskbridge Pro ($5 a year on top of a Deskbridge license), turn on Record Desktop to Movies in the menu. Every DeX session is saved to Movies › Deskbridge, named by date and time, and Deskbridge asks scrcpy to stop cleanly so the file gets finished. Recording is in beta.
Record DeX without Terminal
Deskbridge opens DeX in a Mac window when you plug in. Free for 7 days, then $12 once; Pro is $5 a year on top.
