Wireless Samsung DeX on a Mac
You can run Samsung DeX on your Mac with no cable. Pair your Galaxy once with Wireless debugging (Android 11 or later), keep both on the same Wi-Fi network, then connect from Deskbridge and DeX opens in a Mac window over Wi-Fi. A cable still gives the smoothest picture.
Samsung's wireless DeX vs DeX on a Mac
Samsung's built-in wireless DeX sends DeX to a supported TV or monitor. A Mac isn't one of those displays. On a Mac, DeX runs on a virtual display that a tool streams to a Mac window, over USB or over your Wi-Fi network. That's the part Deskbridge does (how DeX on a Mac works).
What you need
- A Samsung Galaxy with One UI 8 or later (compatible phones).
- Android 11 or later for Wireless debugging (every One UI 8 phone has it).
- The phone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi network. Some guest or office networks stop devices from seeing each other; use a home network or a cable there.
- A Mac on macOS 13 or later.
Set it up
- Turn on Developer options once: Settings › About phone › Software information, then tap Build number seven times.
- In Developer options, open Wireless debugging, turn it on, and tap Pair device with pairing code.
- Pair (first time only): in Deskbridge's Wi-Fi window, type the pairing address and code the phone shows, then click Pair.
- Connect: type the IP address and port shown at the top of the phone's Wireless debugging screen and click Connect. DeX opens in a Mac window. Check that address each time you connect.
Things to know
- Keep the phone awake. Over Wi-Fi, use Deskbridge's Black Out Phone Screen so the phone doesn't sleep (a sleeping phone freezes DeX), and keep an eye on the battery, since it isn't charging from your Mac.
- Wired is smoother. For video or fast scrolling, a USB-C cable gives the best picture.
- Network matters. If the picture lags, move closer to the router or switch to the cable.
And Pixel desktop mode?
Google doesn't document a wireless desktop mode for Pixel phones; press reports describe Pixel desktop mode as wired only. Deskbridge's Wi-Fi link is our own feature. Its Pixel support is a beta that hasn't yet been verified on a physical Pixel, so try it free first.
FAQ
Can I use Samsung DeX on a Mac wirelessly?
Yes, with a tool that connects over Wi-Fi. Pair your Galaxy once with Wireless debugging (Android 11 or later), keep the phone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi network, then connect from Deskbridge and DeX opens in a Mac window without a cable.
Is Samsung's own wireless DeX the same thing?
No. Samsung's built-in wireless DeX sends DeX to a supported TV or monitor. A Mac isn't one of those displays, so on a Mac you need a tool like Deskbridge or scrcpy that streams DeX over your network.
Does Pixel desktop mode work wirelessly?
Google doesn't document a wireless desktop mode for Pixel phones; press reports describe it as wired only. Deskbridge's Wi-Fi link is our own feature, and its Pixel support is a beta that hasn't yet been verified on a physical Pixel.
Is wireless as smooth as a cable?
A cable gives the smoothest picture. Wi-Fi works well for a cable-free desk, but it depends on your network.
