Key takeaways

  • Running the rotation on court, finding and filling games, and running a club's bookings are three different jobs.
  • PlayTime Scheduler and Pickleheads focus on organizing sessions and groups, with round robin tools built in.
  • CourtReserve and Pickleball Den are club software, with court reservations and leagues.
  • Paddle Rack (ours) runs the on-court rotation and scoring from one Android phone, offline, free for up to 4 courts.

Disclosure: Paddle Rack is our app. Everything below comes from each app's own website or US App Store listing as we read them on November 5, 2026. We haven't tested the other apps, prices change, and we left out anything we couldn't read on an official page. Check before you commit your group to one.

Three different jobs

  1. Run the rotation on court: who plays next, fair sit-outs, scores and standings during the session.
  2. Find and fill games: sign-up lists, waitlists, groups and chat.
  3. Run a club: court reservations, programmes, leagues, check-in and payments.

Most apps lean toward one of these. Pick the job first.

PlayTime Scheduler

It calls itself "a FREE scheduling tool created exclusively for pickleball" for creating and joining local play sessions. Its site lists sign-up by format and skill level, free round robins generated "directly from your session's signup list", group chats and alerts, and maps of places to play. The App Store listing adds Premium and Power User tiers as in-app purchases.

Pickleheads

Its App Store listing describes finding nearby games, joining groups and organizing games with sign-ups, waitlists and payments. It lists 12 round robin formats, with standings tracked per player, plus check-in mode and chat. Release notes mention leagues and ladders, and syncing with CourtReserve-connected facilities.

Pickleball Den

Club software. Its club page lists one-click sign-ups with waitlists and player limits, formats such as a Shootout Ladder League, ABCD round robins, Mix-It-Up Play and Luck of the Draw (which tracks who has partnered whom), score entry, court reservations and a discussion forum with text notifications.

CourtReserve

Club software used by racquet and paddle clubs. The player app is free and covers booking courts, joining open play or drop-in sessions, and notifications. The club side lists court reservations, public booking, events and programming, and leagues and ladders. Club plans are listed from $159 a month billed annually (8 courts) up to $549 a month (32 courts), with custom pricing above that.

Paddle Rack

Ours. It runs the session itself from one Android phone: the paddle-rack queue for open play, rotating-partner and fixed-partner round robins, Americano, Mexicano and king of the court, with fair sit-outs, live scores and share links for results. It works offline with no account and no ads. It's free for up to 4 courts and any number of players; Paddle Rack Club adds more courts, ladders across sessions, history, stats and PDF/CSV export for $14.99 once, or $9.99 a year with a 7-day free trial. It doesn't book courts or run sign-ups. Prefer paper? The free generator prints schedules in your browser.

Which one for your group

  • A rec group that already has courts and wants the rotation handled: a rotation app (Paddle Rack), or a printed schedule from the generator.
  • A group that struggles to fill sessions: a sign-up and chat app (PlayTime Scheduler or Pickleheads).
  • A club with bookable courts, members and leagues: club software (CourtReserve or Pickleball Den).

Whatever you use, post the rotation rule at check-in. Court rotation systems explains the options.
