Traditional Catholic prayer

The Morning Offering

A prayer that gives the whole coming day — its prayers, works, joys, and sufferings — to God at its very start.

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart:
the salvation of souls, the reparation for sin,
the reunion of all Christians.
I offer them for the intentions of our bishops
and of all the apostles of prayer,
and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month. Amen.

Pray it first thing in the morning.

Where it comes from

Associated with the Apostleship of Prayer, founded in 1844, which spread the practice of giving the whole coming day to the Sacred Heart before it begins.

Frequently asked

When should it be prayed?

First thing, before the day takes over — the point is that the offering comes before the work, not after it.
