The Glory Be
A short hymn of praise to the Holy Trinity that punctuates the Rosary and the Liturgy of the Hours.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Where it comes from
The lesser doxology, or Gloria Patri, one of the oldest prayers in continuous use. It closes each psalm in the Liturgy of the Hours and each decade of the Rosary.
Frequently asked
Why 'as it was in the beginning'?
It answers the ancient claim that the Son was not eternal. The line insists the glory of the Trinity had no start and will have no end.
