Come, Holy Spirit
The Church's prayer to the Holy Spirit for the renewal of grace and the fire of divine love.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful
and kindle in them the fire of thy love.
Send forth thy Spirit and they shall be created.
And thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
and kindle in them the fire of thy love.
Send forth thy Spirit and they shall be created.
And thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Where it comes from
A versicle and collect long used at Pentecost and before any work needing wisdom — study, a council, an examination, a decision.
Frequently asked
What does 'renew the face of the earth' mean?
It is Psalm 104:30, where God's Spirit sent out re-creates the world. The prayer asks for that on the small scale of a life.
