The Act of Love
A prayer of love for God above all things and for neighbor as oneself.
O my God, I love thee above all things,
with my whole heart and soul,
because thou art all good and worthy of all love.
I love my neighbor as myself for the love of thee.
I forgive all who have injured me,
and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.
with my whole heart and soul,
because thou art all good and worthy of all love.
I love my neighbor as myself for the love of thee.
I forgive all who have injured me,
and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.
Where it comes from
The third of the three acts, of charity: love of God for his own sake, and of neighbour for his.
Frequently asked
Why does it include forgiving others?
Because Christ ties the two together — the love owed to God is not separable from the love owed to the person next to you.
