Traditional Catholic prayer
The Act of Hope
A prayer of confident hope in God's mercy and promises.
O my God, relying on thy almighty power and infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of thy grace, and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of thy grace, and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
Where it comes from
The second of the three acts of the theological virtues, asking for what God has promised and for the help to reach it.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between hope and optimism?
Optimism expects things to go well. Hope expects God to keep a promise, and says so even when things do not.
