St Maximilian of Tebessa
(274–295) Numidian conscript of twenty-one who refused the military oath at Tebessa: 'I cannot serve as a soldier; I am a Christian.' The proconsul read him the penalty; he answered, 'Thanks be to God,' and was beheaded — an early conscientious objector.
Saint Maximilian, young and unyielding, pray for all who refuse to do wrong under orders.
