St Lawrence O'Toole
(1128–1180) Hostage as a boy, abbot of Glendalough at twenty-five, and first Irish-born archbishop of Dublin. Through the Norman invasion he fed the city's refugees, mediated between Irish kings and Henry II, and died on embassy in Normandy, his work unfinished.
