(d. c. 250) First bishop of Paris, sent from Rome to Gaul, beheaded on the hill later called Montmartre — the martyrs' mount — with the priest Rusticus and deacon Eleutherius. The abbey of Saint-Denis rose over his grave and buried the kings of France.
