(c. 975–1038) First king of Hungary, crowned in 1000 with a crown sent by Pope Sylvester II. He organized his realm into dioceses and counties, wrote maxims for his son Emeric, and offered his crown to the Virgin, whom Hungary calls its Great Lady.
