(c. 496–576) Abbot of Autun made bishop of Paris, called the father of the poor for emptying his house — and once the king's treasury — for their relief. He rebuked the crimes of Merovingian kings and founded the abbey later named Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Saint Germanus, alms without measure, pray that our giving embarrass our comfort.

About Ordinary Time

Ordinary Time is the Church's ordered counting of weeks — 'ordinal', not 'ordinary' in the sense of plain. It falls in two stretches, after the Christmas season and after Pentecost, and it is where most of the Gospel is read straight through, Sunday by Sunday.

Why green?

Green is worn through Ordinary Time. It is the color of growth and of hope.

Verse of the day

1 Cor 3:16
