Saint of the day

Optional

St Egwin of Worcester

(d. 717) Bishop of Worcester of royal Mercian blood, so stern against vice that his people appealed to Rome. He went to plead his own cause — legend says with locked fetters on his feet — was vindicated, and founded Evesham Abbey where a herdsman had seen the Virgin.

Saint Egwin, accused and acquitted, pray that we answer complaint with pilgrimage.
