Saint of the day

Optional

St Margaret Mary Alacoque

(1647–1690) Visitation nun of Paray-le-Monial to whom Christ revealed his Sacred Heart — 'Behold this Heart which has so loved men' — asking for the First Fridays and the feast the Church now keeps. Doubted for years, she was vindicated by St Claude de la Colombière.

Saint Margaret Mary, confidante of the Sacred Heart, pray that we return love for love.

About Ordinary Time

Ordinary Time is the Church's ordered counting of weeks — 'ordinal', not 'ordinary' in the sense of plain. It falls in two stretches, after the Christmas season and after Pentecost, and it is where most of the Gospel is read straight through, Sunday by Sunday.

Why green?

Green is worn through Ordinary Time. It is the color of growth and of hope.

Verse of the day

Sir 35:17
