Saint of the day
Optional
St Justus of Lyon
(d. c. 390) Bishop of Lyon who, after a mob killed a fugitive he had surrendered on a false pledge, judged himself unfit for his office. He slipped away to the Egyptian desert to live as an unknown monk; his people found him out and honored him more.
Saint Justus, penitent bishop, pray that we take our failures to the desert and to God.
About Ordinary Time
Ordinary Time is the Church's ordered counting of weeks — 'ordinal', not 'ordinary' in the sense of plain. It falls in two stretches, after the Christmas season and after Pentecost, and it is where most of the Gospel is read straight through, Sunday by Sunday.
Why green?
Green is worn through Ordinary Time. It is the color of growth and of hope.
Verse of the day
Nah 1:7
